What's happening at HNPL in July 2026?

Hello patrons! The summer fun continues throughout July! Learn more about these upcoming events, programs, and opportunities by exploring each one below. We hope to see you in the library soon!

Summer Reading Challenge 2026

The Summer Reading Challenge 2026: Unearth a Story ends July 24.

1. Go to hnpl.beanstack.org or use the Beanstack Tracker app to register. You can also use the registration button below.

2. Log 500 minutes of reading to earn e-tickets to place in drawings of your choice for a chance to win that prize. Also, earn badges and collect rewards when you hit reading milestones.

3. We will have the drawing at the end of Summer Reading.

Bonus Round

The all-new Summer Reading Bonus Round is now available! Those done with the Summer Reading Challenge can take on these extra activities to receive tickets for the extra prizes at the Root Beer Float Party happening on July 25. Each BINGO you complete on your sheet gets you one ticket. A total of 12 tickets can be earned from your BINGO board. Also, receive additional tickets by reading more books. Every 5 books you read and record on the backside of your Reading Log earns you 1 ticket.

When you've completed a BINGO or read 5 books, show the staff at the circulation desk your Reading Log and they will give you your ticket. After you receive your ticket(s), place them into the container in front of the prize you want. Make sure your contact information is on the backside before you place them in the containers. All tickets MUST be in by 5:00 PM on July 24.

End of Summer Party

July 25 | 11:00 AM–12:30 PM | Meeting Room A/B | All Ages

Everyone is welcome to come have a blast at our End of Summer Party! Pick up your winning raffle prizes, stay for a tasty root beer float, and have a chance to take home some additional swag just for joining us for the fun.

Please note: Summer Reading tracking ends on Friday, July 24 at 11:59 PM.

Youth Bike Helmet Giveaway

July 2 | 1:30–5:30 PM | Storytime Room

We're holding a special FREE event and you're invited! It's easy--pick from 4 different dinosaur shapes to color, give the dino to the librarian, and you'll get a free bicycle helmet in exchange. Note: limited to 1 helmet per child, child must be present to exchange dino for helmet. Event starts at 1:30pm and will be offered WHILE SUPPLIES LAST.

(We have 24 s/m and 24 l/xl youth-sized helmets in the color blue and we are unable to offer substitutions--once the helmets are gone, we will not be able to get more--so please come early if you can!)

Taylor Center of Natural History Presentation

Come learn about the exciting archaeological discoveries that have been uncovered at Strawtown Koteewi Park.

Origami Chain Class

July 9 | 5:00–7:00 PM | Makerspace | All Ages

HNPL Friends present an Origami Workshop. Over the course of the 2 hour workshop, you will learn how to create an origami chain.

Registration is required.

Come make a mini-dinosaur world come to life!

July 22: Modeling Clay Garden

Come create a masterpiece with modeling clay! Just bring your imagination!

Thrilling Thursdays: Tony & Tilly's Tales

Dinosaur-themed storytime, songs, and interactive messy play. Part of storytime will be held outside, weather permitting.

We’ll provide the LEGOs and Duplos, you bring your imagination!

July 17: Play-Doh Playtime

All Play-Doh and Play-Doh toys will be provided.

Stuffie Sleepover and Storytime

July 20 | 4:00–6:00 PM | Storytime Room

Bring your favorite stuffie for an action-packed sleepover at the Library! Check-in/drop-off is 4:00–6:00 PM.

Optional: Special "campfire" storytime and s'mores snack from 5:00–5:45 PM. Watch your stuffie's antics on social media and come pick them up the next morning. A fun time is guaranteed!

Mystery Book Club

Come join us for the monthly Mystery Book Club meeting! New members are always welcome. We will be discussing James Lee Burke's Flags on the Bayou. Hope to see you there!

Come join us as we converse about books we are reading, while enjoying some non-alcoholic drinks and appetizers.

This month we are reading Not Just a Homemaker by Paulette Brooks. The author, Paulette Brooks, will be joining our discussion group.

You don't have to read the book to join us. We are always looking for new suggestions.

Fluid Art Canvases

July 30 | 5:00–6:00 PM | Makerspace | Ages: 12+

Paint a canvas without using a single brush! Select your colors and let gravity do all the work as you shift your canvas to spread the paint. A simple and fun technique where there’s no way to do it wrong.

Registration is required.

Steps & Stories

Grab your earbuds and water bottles! HNPL has a new club for you, the Steps & Stories Club. We will be listening to audiobooks while we walk along the park trail. Once we have done our laps, we will stretch and discuss which books we are listening to. Please meet at the picnic table on the west side of the library building. There we will gear up and head to the park next door for our laps. See you there!

The Great Gabsbee Quilting Bee

2nd & 4th Tuesday of the Month | 11:00 AM–3:00 PM | Meeting Room A/B | Ages: 18+

Join in on the fun and learn a new technique or two. Quilters of all experiences are welcome!

Calling all writing enthusiasts! Write On is our new gathering at HNPL for writers, aspiring writers, and those who appreciate good writing. Join us as we discuss writing and actually flex our writing muscles.

Open Makerspace Hours

Wednesdays & Fridays

2:30–4:30 PM | Makerspace | All Ages

Looking for a space to work on your arts and crafts? Hamilton North Public Library now has Open Makerspace Hours just for that. Come in to use our sewing machines to fix a hem, or make a birthday card for a friend or a relative. We still have paints, brushes, pencils, and canvas if you are looking to paint or draw.

Have a suggestion on what should be in the Makerspace? Please let the staff know your ideas.

HNPL Knitters

Mondays

10:00 AM–12:00 PM | Makerspace | Ages: 18+

A group for beginners and experienced knitters of all levels. Bring your knitting, crochet, cross stitch, and other yarn projects and work on them with others in this cozy community. Don't have a project? No worries! We will get you started on one. There is room for everyone of all experiences!

Open Art Studio

Tuesdays

12:00–2:00 PM | Makerspace | Ages: 18+

This is a great opportunity to network with other local artists, work on your art projects, and have fun at the library! Bring your projects and supplies to our Makerspace. The library has some basic art supplies, such as paints, brushes, and paper you may use along with your own personal supplies. Join us. It's free! No registration required.
