What's happening at HNPL in December 2025?

Season's greetings patrons! With the holiday season in full-swing, we thought we would tell you all about the exciting events and programs happening at HNPL. Learn more about these upcoming events, programs, and opportunities by exploring each one below. We hope to see you in the library soon!

HNPL Closures

Holiday Card Making Class

December 4 | 6:00–8:00 PM | Jenkins Meeting Room | $10 per person

Looking to make a Christmas card for that someone special on your list? Then register for the Friends of the Library Holiday Card Making Class. For $10 a person you will get to make four beautiful Christmas cards for your friends and family. All supplies are included. The money will be collected at the door when you enter for the class.

Registration is required.

Fluid Art Ornaments

December 9 | 5:00–6:00 PM | Makerspace | Ages: 12+

Get into the holiday spirit with us as we make our own ornaments using acrylic pour paints! Select your colors and let gravity do all the work creating your masterpiece. A simple and fun technique where there’s no way to do it wrong.

Registration is required.

Letters for Santa

December 1–13

Write your letter.
Must include a stamped envelope with your name and address so Santa can write you back.
Bring your letter to the red mailbox in the Children's Department.
Elves come every night to send the letters to the North Pole.

Rooted in Art

HNPL Friends of the Library's biggest fundraiser ever has kicked off! Paint a small 4"X4" tile and it will become part of this beautiful 8'x8' mosaic mural.

Your painting kit is $25 and includes everything you need - tile, paint, brushes, and ideas!

Visit the library to purchase your tile painting kit and join us on this incredible journey to raise money for our library art programs and Makerspace.

Please note: Children under the age of 8 must have a caregiver present in the program room and children 8-12 must have a caregiver aged 14 or over in the library during the program. Please let your children know where you will be in the library in case they finish early.

LEGO Builders Club

December 3 & 18 | 4:00–5:00 PM | Storytime Room | Ages: 5–10 (suggested)

We’ll provide the LEGOs, just bring your imagination. At the end, we'll take a picture of your creation for you to take home and display. Let's get creative!

Please note: Children under 8 must be supervised by an adult. Children 8-10 must be supervised by someone 14 or older.

Play-Doh Play Time

December 5 & 19 | 10:30–11:15 AM | Storytime Room | Ages: 3+

Create and sculpt your favorite things with Play-Doh during our Play-Doh Play Time! All Play-Doh and Play-Doh toys will be provided.

Manga-nificent: Graphic Novel Hangout

December 8 | 4:00–5:00 PM | Storytime Room | Ages: 11–17

Craft of the Month: Candy Sushi

Are you a fan of manga? Comics? Graphic novels? Then come celebrate your love for your favorite media in this friendly hangout. We'll share our latest favorite reads, create our own art, and try some Asian candy and snacks. It will be a manga-nificent time!

Registration is required.

Busy Builders Play Time

Curi-Artsity Club

STEM Explorers Club

Experiment: Homemade Snow

Put your STEM skills to the test! Workshop stations feature fun and exciting interactive play, robotics, circuitry, and activities designed to foster teamwork, creativity, and imaginations.

Theme: Seasonal Crafts

We have a special activity for children to make and take home. Directions and supplies will be set up for children who are interested in making the craft. Available while supplies last.

Mystery Book Club

December 29 | 3:30–4:30 PM | Meeting Room A/B

Come join us for the monthly Mystery Book Club meeting! New members are always welcome. We will be discussing Pepper Basham's The Mistletoe Countess. Hope to see you there!

Stuffie Sleepover and Storytime

December 29–30 | 5:30 PM | Storytime Room

Bring your favorite stuffed animal friend for an evening storytime! After some songs and books, your stuffie will stay at the library overnight—be sure to watch our Facebook page to see what they get up to once everyone has gone home! Stuffed animals can be picked up the following morning beginning at 10:30 AM. We will provide a light breakfast snack, juice, and a picture of your stuffie from the sleepover.

Wee Readers Storytime

Twilight Tales: Pajama Storytime

Join us for STEAM-based stories, music with movement, and interactive play stations. A whole new way to experience storytime!

HNPL Knitters

Mondays

10:00 AM–12:00 PM | Makerspace | Ages: 18+

A group for beginners and experienced knitters of all levels. Bring your knitting, crochet, cross stitch, and other yarn projects and work on them with others in this cozy community. Don't have a project? No worries! We will get you started on one. There is room for everyone of all experiences!

Please note: There will be no HNPL Knitters Dec. 22 & 29.

Open Art Studio

Tuesdays

12:00–2:00 PM | Makerspace | Ages: 18+

This is a great opportunity to network with other local artists, work on your art projects, and have fun at the library! Bring your projects and supplies to our Makerspace. The library has some basic art supplies, such as paints, brushes, and paper you may use along with your own personal supplies. Join us. It's free! No registration required.
