Summer Reading Challenge 2025
It's almost that time of the year again! The Summer Reading Challenge 2025: Color Our World is set to begin June 2. 1. Go to hnpl.beanstack.org or use the Beanstack Tracker App to register. You can also use the registration button below. 2. Log 500 minutes of reading to earn (up to 30) e-tickets to place in drawings of your choice for a chance to win that prize. Also, earn badges and
collect rewards when you hit reading milestones. 3. Winners will be selected at the end of Summer Reading. Good luck!

Bring a camping chair and come enjoy music brought to you by Bach to Rock Carmel. We'll also be giving out popsicles and having a sidewalk chalk contest.

All skill levels are welcome. Chess sets provided.
June 5 | 3:00–6:30 PM | Makerspace
Families work together to make one unique creation from provided cardboard and recyclables to display on top of the children's area book shelves. The creation must fit on top of the bookshelves or will not be displayed for judging. Patrons will vote for their favorite creations.
"Percy the Purple Cow" presented by Roz Puppets
June 19 | 6:00–6:45 PM | Jenkins Meeting Room
A story about a happy little cow who turned purple because of her love of grape soda. Through some silly mishaps she finds fame just by being herself. Registration required.
Raccoon Lake Sax Quartet: A Night at the Movies

Kids' Program June Schedule
June 5, 11, 19, 26 | 10:00 AM | Storytime Room | Ages: 0–7
Make handprint art to contribute to the collaborative art project that will be located on the windows above the craft table in the children's area. Children will be using washable non-toxic paint for this project.
June 7 | 11:00–11:45 AM | Picnic Table | Ages: 3–5
Storytime with a twist! We'll read a story then the children will have fun learning through messy exploration of various stations. Be sure to have your children wear clothes that can get dirty. Registration required.
June 14 | 10:30–11:00 AM | Makerspace | Kids & Family
Come hear Officer Sarah with the Cicero Police Department read a story with K-9 Officer Simon. After the story you can take a picture with Officer Sarah and Simon. Then we'll go outside and see a police car up close! Registration required.
Storytime with Betsy the Therapy Dog

Join us for a very special storytime with Betsy, a certified therapy dog and her handler Ms. Stacey! Betsy has been a fixture at HNPL, listening to kids read every month. You'll have a chance to meet Betsy and have your picture taken with her. We'll have a doggone good time with stories, music, and crafts.

Learn how to code games in Scratch! You'll create fun games that your family and friends can play! For this class you'll need to bring your own laptop or iPad, know how to login to your laptop or iPad, and join Scratch, https://scratch.mit.edu/join, before the first day of class. You'll also need to know your username and password for Scratch. We are unable to provide any troubleshooting assistance on
personal devices. Registration required.

Join us for snacks, discussion, and activities related to the graphic novel, Spy School by Stuart Gibbs. Note, you do not have to read the book ahead of time, but it may be helpful when we discuss it. Copies of the graphic novel will be available at the circulation desk for check out. Slither & Paint: A Snake Adventure

Diamond Art Painting Work Day

Come work on our collaborative Teen Diamond Painting Project! Materials provided.

Make a mini masterpiece on a tiny canvas using acrylic paint, marker, watercolor, or another medium. Bring your creativity! Artwork will be displayed in the teen area of the library and may be picked up at the end of summer reading. Registration required.

Enjoy free play with wooden blocks, Lincoln Logs, magnetic tiles, Keva planks, carboard bricks, Mega Blocks, and other toy construction materials. It's play time!
Here's a tip: Talk to your children about what they are building as they learn early STEM skills and build new vocabulary.

Relax from the day-to-day stressors by engaging in therapeutic art. Neurographic art was developed by psychologist Pavel Piskarev where its main goal is to help the individual relax and reconnect with themselves. Make neuron-like lines and color in the shapes with the media of your choice.

Join us to watch anime, eat snacks, sketch your favorite anime and manga characters, discuss your favorite anime shows/movies and manga books, and make suggestions for our collection! Vote on what we'll watch during our next meeting. The library has a premium Crunchyroll subscription with over 2,000 titles and 50,000 episodes to choose from! This program is for teens
only. Age range will be strictly enforced. Behavior expectations must be read and signed at the beginning of the program.

Calling all Yarn Crafters! HNPL Knitters Club is still looking for members. If you have an interest in crocheting, knitting, cross stitching, and any other yarn art, please join us. For the month of June, HNPL Knitters will be watching beginning knitting videos. We will be knitting scarves for Christmas presents.

If you are into any form of art, this is the space for you. Bring your current project to work on. If you don't have a current project, we have plenty of artists to suggest one.
