March Madness Book Sale

Chili Cook-off

Mar. 13 | 5:00–7:00 PM | Jenkins Meeting Room

Celebrate the end of winter with the HNPL Friends of the Library Chili Cook-off! Bring in your best chili for judging and, of course, tasting. There will be prizes.

Not a cook? That's ok! Join the fun by tasting and voting for your favorite using your spare change. No matter how you like it, spicy, hot, or mild, all proceeds go to the HNPL Friends for summer reading and other library programming.

It's free to enter and free to taste!

Electronics Recycling

Have electronics that need to be recycled? Stop by HNPL and let someone recycle your electronics for you! Also, learn a little something about how to recycle them in the future.

STEM Storytime: Sink or Float? A Water Science Adventure

Mar. 1 | 11:00–11:45 AM | Storytime Room | Kindergarten to Second Grade

Introducing STEM Storytime! Listen to a story about sinking and floating, participate in some hands-on experiments at our water table, then build your own boat and see if it will sink or float. Make a paper boat to take home and experiment with in your sink or bathtub.

I Survived Book Club

Introducing a new book club, I Survived Book Club! Join us for a fun afternoon as we eat snacks, do activities, conduct experiments, and watch short videos related to the historical events of the book. This month's book is I Survived the San Francisco Earthquake, 1906 by Lauren Tarshis. You do not have to read the book ahead of time, but it may help when we discuss it. LEGO Club

Let your imagination go wild with the provided LEGOs at HNPL. At the end, your wonderful creations will be displayed in the library! Let's get creative!

Please note: Children under 8 must be supervised by an adult. Children 8-10 must be supervised by someone 14 or older.

Mystery Book Club

Come join us as we converse about books we are reading, while enjoying some non-alcoholic drinks and appetizers. This month's book is The Women by Kristin Hannah.

Read with Betsy the Therapy Dog!

Is your child reading but needs to build their confidence? Meet Betsy, a certified therapy dog that would be more than happy to listen to any story told to her. She's sweet, lovable, and would never judge! Sign up at the circulation desk or call the desk at (317) 984-5623 for a spot. Walk-ins are welcome, but will have to wait for an opening.

Parents must be present in the Storytime Room with their child.

Shading with Charcoal

Mar. 27 | 5:00–6:00 PM | Meeting Room A/B

Get your hands dirty as you practice shading using charcoal! Train your eye to notice how shadows interact with different shapes to create a sense of depth. Recreate the still life yourself from scratch or practice shading with some pre-drawn shapes.

More Storytime fun is happening in March! Come join us Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday throughout the month for some entertaining storybooks, songs, and rhymes.

HNPL Knitters

Mondays

10:00 AM–12:00 PM | Makerspace | Adults

A group for beginners and experienced knitters of all levels. Bring your knitting, crochet, cross stitch, and other yarn projects and work on them with others in this cozy community. Don't have a project? No worries! We will get you started on one. There is room for everyone of all experiences!

Open Art Studio

Tuesdays | 12:00–2:00 PM | Makerspace | Ages: 18+

This is a great opportunity to network with other local artists, work on your art projects, and have fun at the library! Bring your projects and supplies to our Makerspace. The library has some basic art supplies, such as paints, brushes, and paper you may use along with your own personal supplies. Join us. It's free! No registration required.

We know it can be exciting to dive into a good story, but please make sure you handle your borrowed books with care. Others can't enjoy the book if it's damaged. Please ensure that the books you check out are properly looked after. Thank you!
